Jeg ble født i Lisboa, Portugal, 1. juli 1964, og begynte å spille trommer i 1983.
Mellom 1987 og 1991 studerte jeg på Hot Clube Jazz Skole og Musikk Akademiet i Lisboa.
I 1992 studerte jeg på Drummers Collective musikkskole i N.Y. og oppnådde "Certificate of Completion in all phases of drumming".
I denne perioden deltok jeg også på seminarer og workshops med Alan Dawson, David Liebman, Rufus Reid, John Abercrombie, Reggie Workman, Clark Terry, Barney Kessel, Hal Garper, Bobby Watson, Terence Blanchard, Karl Berger, Kenny Washington, Peter Erskine, Rod Morgenstein, Dom Famularo, Jojo Mayer og Buphinder Singh Chaggar.
Profesjonell musiker siden '89, jobbet med mange av Portugals beste artister og musikere i folkemusikk, pop, funk, soul, fusion, blues, rock, jazz, world og perkusjonsband.
Jeg spilte på verdensberømte spillesteder og festivaler som MIDEM i Miami Beach, EFWMF i Berlin, Zappanale i Bad Doberan, Performing Arts Center i New Jersey, Queen Elizabeth Hall i London, Blues Sur Seine Festival, Breda Jazz Festival , over hele Portugal og også rundt Frankrike, Italia, Spania, Hellas, Tyskland, Belgia, Nederland, Brasil, Kina, England, Norge, USA og Canada.
Har spilt inn over 30 CD-er og mange tv- og radioprogrammer i flere land.
Har komponert lydspor for en rekke informative og pedagogiske DVDer regissert av Maarten Roos for det europeiske romfartsselskapet ESA, Le Planetaire de Paris, den europeiske Venus Explorer prosjekt, og European Planetology Network.
Samarbeidet med dansere og koreografer inkludert liveopptredener med den moderne dansegruppen CêDêCê og med Ballet Gulbenkian, workshops med Keren Levi på CODA International Dance Festival i Oslo, gjestespilleren i 1. International Salsa Dance Festival i Portugal og forestillinger og klasser med mage-danser Margrethe Glambek.
Med komponist, arrangør og produsent Eduardo Paes Mamede vant vi EEC Song Festival i 1992 i Salonica, Hellas.
Siden 1992 har jeg undervist i rytme, trommer og perkusjon til over 1000 studenter, både privat og på flere skoler og orkestre i Portugal og også i Norge. Co-grunnlagt det første og største ungdomsperkusjonsorkester i Portugal, Tocá Rufar, og veiledet grunnleggerne til en annen relevant ungdoms slagverkorkester, Tocándar.
Medlem av styret i Musikernes forbund i Portugal i 2004.
Flyttet til Oslo i slutten av 2004, og spilt med Nordstrand Janitsjarkorps, Antropófagos, Rakija, Claudio Latini, Pausefiskene, Maghreb Funk, Grupo Zanza, Bossanova Forever med Nelson Faria, Bruna Santana, Lucky Novak og Frostrøyk.
Undervist privat, på skoler, og ungdomsorkestre som Bekkelaget Bandskole, Holumskogen Skole og Bryn Skoles Musikkorps.
I 2014 opprettet jeg et program rettet mot barnehager og barn i 2-6 års alderen, kalt "João, toget og tigeren": historiefortelling illustrert med lyd fra musikkinstrumenter og andre ulike lydkilder.
For tiden spiller jeg jevnlig med Oslobaserte Frostrøyk og Claudio Latini.

Born in Lisbon, Portugal, on the 1st of July 1964, I started playing drums in 1983.
Between 1987 and 1991 I studied at the Hot Clube Jazz School and at the Music Academy in Lisbon.
In 1992 was admitted at the Drummers Collective School of Music in N.Y. where I studied with a deluxe faculty and achieved the "Certificate of Completion".
During this period, I also attended seminars and workshops with Alan Dawson, David Liebman, Rufus Reid, John Abercrombie, Reggie Workman, Clark Terry, Barney Kessel, Hal Garper, Bobby Watson, Terence Blanchard, Karl Berger, Kenny Washington, Peter Erskine, Rod Morgenstein, Dom Famularo, Jojo Mayer and Buphinder Singh Chaggar.
Professional musician since '89, worked with many of Portugal’s top artists and musicians in folk, pop, funk, soul, fusion, blues, rock, jazz, world and percussion bands.
Performed in worldwide famous venues and festivals like the MIDEM in Miami Beach, the EFWMF in Berlin, the Zappanale in Bad Doberan, the Performing Arts Center in New Jersey, the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London, the Blues Sur Seine Festival, the Breda Jazz Festival, all over Portugal and also around France, Italy, Spain, Greece, Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands, Brazil, China, England, Norway, U.S.A. and Canada.
Recorded over 30 CD’s and numerous tv and radio programs in several countries.
Composed soundtracks for a number of informative and educational DVD's directed by Maarten Roos for the European Space Agency, Le Planetaire de Paris, the European Venus Explorer and the European Planetology Network.
Collaborated with dancers and choreographers including live performances with the contemporary dance company CêDêCê, in Paulo Ribeiro's tribute to José Limón, with the Ballet Gulbenkian in "See under X" by Itzik Galili, workshops with Keren Levi in the CODA International Dance Festival of Oslo, guest percussionist in the 1st International Salsa Dance Festival in Portugal and performances and classes with belly-dancer Margrethe Glambek.
With composer, arranger and producer Eduardo Paes Mamede won the 2nd EEC Song Festival in 1992 in Salonica, Greece.
Since 1992 I taught rhythm, drums and percussion to over 1000 students, both privately and in several schools and orchestras in Portugal and also in Norway. Co-founded the first and biggest youth percussion orchestra in Portugal, Tocá Rufar, and coached the founders of another relevant one, Tocándar.
Member of the board of the Musicians Union in Portugal in 2004.
Moved to Oslo, Norway, in the end of 2004, where I have played with the Nordstrand Janitsjarkorps, Antropófagos, Rakija, Claudio Latini, Pausefiskene, Maghreb Funk, Grupo Zanza, Bossanova Forever with Nelson Faria, Bruna Santana, Lucky Novak and Frostrøyk.
I also taught privately and in schools and youth orchestras such as Bekkelaget Bandskole, Holumskogen Skole and Bryn Skoles Musikkorps.
In 2014 I started a program directed to kindergardens and children between ages 2-6, called "João, toget og tigeren": storytelling illustrated with sounds from musical instruments and other various sound sources.
Currently, I'm playing regularly with Frostrøyk and Claudio Latini.
